Although I'm not a railroad hobbyist per se, I've always wondered what Quinsippi Island looked like when it was owned by the CB&Q, before becoming an island and a park. The current roads were rails, and the old Mississippi RR bridge crossed south of the current one. Also, two RR bridges crossed the bay: one is still in use as the road bridge, and the other crossing at the southern end, from the flagpole to the Pier restaurant. The mainland side of the bay consisted of floating boathouses, river camps, rail yards, and power lines. Bayview (Bosansignia) Drive didn't exist yet, but a gravel lane known as Lumber Avenue ran through today's site of Kesler Park. The boathouses, Bayview Fish, and Quincy Sand Company were cleared to make way for parks. Bayview Storage became a cabinet factory around 1990 and burned in 1996; today it's the site of a strip mall.
I'd love to see pictures of the area from its former incarnation.
Put on a happy face.
